Shoe Care
We highly recommend taking the time to protect your custom designed shoes. Caring for your shoes will not only keep them looking new, but it will also extend their life and allow them to be more comfortable. Here are some helpful tips for caring for your one-of-a-kind custom designed shoes:
- Before taking your custom shoes out into the elements apply your favorite leather, suede or fabric protectant. When choosing a protectant make sure to avoid any products that include acid or detergent. These can be harmful to the materials and have a tendency to age the shoe. Re-apply as needed, usually about 4 times a year, and especially before the fall and winter.
- For leather shoes, make sure to store them out of direct sunlight. Leaving them in the sun can dry out the leather. If this happens, don't fret, just apply a moisturizing shoe cream and it will restore them to their original state.
- If your shoes become heavily soiled or obtain salt lines during the winter, it can be fixed. Use a very mild bar soap (make sure it's a neutral color) with a damp washcloth, gently wipe the affected area and allow to dry. Once dry, re-apply the protectant of choice before wearing outside.
- ALWAYS replace your heel taps (these are the small plastic pieces at the bottom of your heels). Every shoe will need its heel tap replaced at some point depending on how often you wear your shoes - this is normal wear and tear. You can tell it's time to replace them when you notice a little bit of silver showing through the heel tap. Replacing these is a quick and inexpensive fix that your local shoe cobbler can do for you.
By following these tips, your one-of-a-kind custom designed shoes will be a fashion statement for years to come!
